Do supermarkets know more about us than we do?

Analysing the decisions we make in the supermarket can help us understand the choices we make in other areas of our lives. Shaped by our choices To explore shoppers’ decision-making, we collected more than a million till receipts from one of the UK’s major supermarket chains over several years. Unsurprisingly, we discovered that people’s purchases reveal what they value and what their aims are. These range from very specific goals such as making a stir-fry, to general goals such as reducing their overall spending. BEIJING – China is defending its often-criticized policies toward Tibet 60 years after the Dalai Lama fled abroad amid an uprising against Chinese rule. The official Xinhua News Agency says economic growth, increases in lifespan and better education refute the claims of critics. Tibet is ruled under a smothering Chinese security blanket and many Tibetans abroad say the Himalayan region’s resources are being exploited for Beijing’s benefit while Tibet’s unique Buddhist culture is being destroyed.

Trump signed Bibles. Heresy? Many religious leaders say no

“Though we don’t have a national faith, there is faith in our nation, and so it’s not at all surprising that people would have politicians sign their Bibles,” he said. “Those Bibles are meaningful to them and apparently these politicians are, too.” But the Rev. Donnie Anderson, executive minister of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, said she was offended by the way Trump scrawled his signature Friday as he autographed Bibles and other things, including hats, and posed for photos. She viewed it, she said, as a “calculated political move” by the Republican president to court his evangelical voting base. Presidents have a long history of signing Bibles, though earlier presidents typically signed them as gifts to send …

Fact Checking Trump (and others) at CPAC

Washington (CNN)The annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event attracts college Republicans, populists, nationalists, some libertarians, and the occasional Revolutionary reenactor. For the past three years, it’s also attracted President Donald Trump. Tariffs In talking about trade and tariffs, Trump pulled out one of his favorite lines, telling the audience, “Billions of dollars right now are pouring into our Treasury.” Facts First: Technically this is true. It’s just that the billions of dollars aren’t coming from foreign countries and companies, as Trump has suggested in the past. Instead, it’s American companies and consumers that are paying most of the cost of these tariffs. We fact checked a similar statement from Trump during his speech in El Paso last month. Here’s …

The pressure is on Kim Jong Un after failure in Hanoi

(CNN)There were encouraging signs leading up to the second summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. For his part, Trump signaled a subtle but important shift in his approach toward North Korea’s denuclearization — repeatedly saying, “Speed is not important to me” and “I’m in no rush.” This indicated Trump finally was beginning to accept what most nonproliferation experts have been saying all along: That denuclearization of North Korea will be a long and complex process that may last over a decade. Then, suddenly, it was all for naught. The second day of the summit was cut short, and the two leaders left with nothing to show for it. While the failure to reach an …

Two residents found them last Thursday on the site of an old wastewater treatment plant. The city bought the property and locked it up. Mecklenburg County workers say there is no evidence the carcasses impacted the water. Trending in US Original Article : HERE ; This post was curated & posted using : RealSpecific
